World War Vignettes: Washington DC 1/2 published on 2 Comments on World War Vignettes: Washington DC 1/2

Cameos: Susie, Calvin, and Candace (Calvin & Hobbes), Ronald-Ann Smith (Bloom County), and Alex (Doonesbury)!

The news report they’re watching is the same one as in this strip.

Washington, DC.

News: We’re getting no communication from inside the White House. Whereabouts of the Vice President remain unknown. At this time, members of the press are being barred from the scene. We’re going to play for you now some footage which appears to contain several gunshots.

Ronald-Ann: They’re never going to take us on a class trip ever again.

Candace: What if he’s dead?

???: Shhh,Candace.

Susie: C-coming!

Calvin: Susie! Are you in there?

Candace: Eeek! It’s the killer!

Susie: No, it’s just Calvin.

Ronald-Ann: Don’t let him in! I’m not decent!

Susie: What are you doing here? The teacher said we’re supposed to stay locked in our rooms!

Calvin: Yeah, I know.

And I know it’s stupid, going off to fight demons when I didn’t even bring my Spaceman Spiff gear–

Susie: Demons?

Calvin: –but someone’s gotta do it, so in case I don’t come back —

Susan: Calvin?! Calvin, you idiot, wait!!

Okay, where is Hobbes during this!?!?

FelinaofL2 on Sat Jul 10, 2010 8:59 pm

Probably waiting to help Calvin. Also, nice to see Susie still has Mr. Bun with her.:D

Fooxie on Sat Jul 10, 2010 9:37 pm

Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes?

Chaos Priest on Sat Jul 10, 2010 9:50 pm

Well, I guess if he didn’t bring his Spaceman Spiff equipment he’ll just have to go as STUPENDOUS MAN!

Or he could just try to sneak into the Employee Only parts of the hotel they’re staying at and try to find some cardboard boxes. I figure with a Duplicator and a Transmogrifier he just might be able to make a difference out there.

Brynnie-chan on Sun Jul 11, 2010 11:25 am

Awwww, Susie still has Mr. Bun! But who are all the others in there? I think I recognize one of them as Goo from Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends…And wait, where’s Hobbes? For that matter, if Spaceman Spiff can’t do it, can’t he use Stupendous Man?

SailorPtah on Sun Jul 11, 2010 12:02 pm

The redhead is Candace, from Calvin & Hobbes. The others are from comics that were in the newspaper at the same time (one of which is still running, while the other isn’t).

FelinaofL2 on Sun Jul 11, 2010 2:25 pm

Ohhhhh, yeah! That girl! From when Stupendous Man came to do Calvin’s test! (Seen here:

“He lives on YOUR street, right?”
“I hardly even know him, Candace!”

Kavani on Mon Jul 12, 2010 4:28 pm

Woohoo! Go Calvin!

Brynnie-chan on Mon Jul 12, 2010 6:54 pm

Oh? (looks back at her comics page, thinks, blinks, and…..) OH MY GOD. The girl with the dreadlocks is Sunny Cobb from JumpStart! Now if only I could get the other one…My guess is the little boy from Opus.

FelinaofL2 on Tue Jul 13, 2010 7:18 am

I don’t think so– I think it’s another girl since the other 3 are girls. Plus one of them said when Calvin arrived, “Don’t let him in! I’m not decent!”, meaning there’s no boy with them. (Sorry, I’ve been playing Phoenix Wright! XD)

SwordKing on Wed Jul 14, 2010 6:42 pm

Actually Brynnie-chan, the African American girl is Ronald-Ann Smith from Bloom County. Erin says the last girl comes from a comic that’s still running. But it must be a comic my paper doesn’t carry because I haven’t the foggiest who she is.

FelinaofL2 on Wed Jul 14, 2010 8:19 pm

My only guess would’ve been April (or maybe Elisabeth?) from For Better or For Worse….

Kazokuhouou on Thu Jul 15, 2010 9:33 am

The problem with that is April’s Canadian, why would she be in an American class? Though if it is I sincerely hope she survives since she is the ONLY person in FBOFW that has her head screwed on right. (Well, a couple others, but lets face it, her own creator hated her)

FelinaofL2 on Thu Jul 15, 2010 2:15 pm

I had no idea that comic was Canadian!

SailorPtah on Thu Jul 15, 2010 4:56 pm

Keep in mind that “present day” in the Shineverse is 1999. The character in question isn’t a twelve-year-old in current newspapers – she’s college-aged ^_~

Kazokuhouou on Thu Jul 15, 2010 9:16 pm

Yeah, it is. It just doesn’t really play the Canadianness up much, just one time, and that was so morons readers didn’t think they were in London, England rather than London, Ontario.

At any rate, I’m drawing a blank, every character I can think of either is blond or runs on Comic Book Time.

SwordKing on Thu Jul 22, 2010 10:45 am

I think I finally have an idea who Susie’s third roommate was. If I’m right, she is indeed from a comic my local first bumped to the editorial section, then stopped running altogether years ago for some reason.

Is it Alex from Doonesbury?

SailorPtah on Thu Jul 22, 2010 1:42 pm

DING DING DING! We have a winner!
