Marian: Where are we going first, Laura?

Laura: Well, little sister, I have one idea…

You’ve heard the rumors out of England, about the female knight…who kills or captures every vampire she meets?

Marian: Wow! Is that really what she looks like?

Laura: Er…so I imagine, anyway.

That’s a hilarious interpretation of Integra, there.

I can’t realy explain it but here is a wikipedia artilcle on it…i loked up Mary Sue the other day ’cause I didn’t know either http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Sue

Hope it’s helpful….it was for me

you must be a lucky one…

a mary-sue is a character mostly in fanfiction that takes aways the spotlight from the other characters only because the writer does that way, not actually because the character is good enough. A mary sue character is not equilibrated, tends to have to much virtues and “cool things” and no actually realistic flaws, sometime have a tragic past.
Mary-sues are like black holes of spotlight basically, when a sue enters character development and original objetives of the storie are tossed aside in favor of whatever the mary sue is related.

I would have included “Hunter” in the name, but there’s no H in “Mary Sue”. At least I got “Raven” in there.

Marian isn’t so much of a Sue as a parody of a Sue. Here’s how I see her character: If she were a normal young human girl with an Internet connection, she would be writing fanfiction about a character named Marian Amethyst Raven Yumi Sappho Urania Elizabeth. Because she ended up with the baobhan sith, she is instead running her life as if she’s the heroine of such a story.

The trouble with this is that the rest of the world will not change the way she would change it in fanfiction. If she were writing this story, she would defeat Alucard in a few minutes, after which Integra would fall for her and beg her to be Hellsing’s number-one vampire. She would graciously accept, and badly written pr0n would ensue.

However, even though Marian is making herself as Sue-ish as possible (starting with the name), she cannot make Alucard and Integra react as they would to a Sue. And that’s where it’ll all fall down.

Lololol I like Laura’s imagination. What’s hilarious is that I was playing an MMORPG earlier, then I see Integra looking like something right out of the game. (i c arucard playign peekaboo 2)

And I have a question about Laura. I’ve read Carmilla, but I don’t remember it mentioning anything about the White Women being in it. So what’s this about Laura being one of them? (I guess I don’t know quite enough to make the connection. VoV; )

by SailorPtah on Wed Jun 13, 2007 9:51 pm

Laura isn’t from Carmilla. That’s where she got the alias, but beyond that she has no connection.

The confusion comes from a poor translation, which in turn comes from the fact that nobody had any idea how to translate “boovanshee” from the Japanese original, so they fumbled it and latched on to the mention of Carmilla to explain her background.

(In fairness to the translators, “baobhan sith” – pronounced “baa’van shee” – is a pretty obscure concept. Until you know that there’s a type of vampire that runs around in green and seduces people, it’s easy to miss the connection.)

Thank yooou for clearing that up.

Mary H. Sue sounds kinda funny in my opinion though~
But whatever, that’s just rediculous. I’munna shut up now.

thank you very much for the wikipedia link
i’m afraid i created mary-sues myself when i was adolescent!! šŸ˜³

It’s all good…all my friends write fanfiction and they have TOO many Mary Sues. And they make me read them*shudder* The thing that I’m trying to steer my friends away from is basically re-writing the entire plot of an anime with a new Mary Sue charactor. I really don’t like it.

haha don’t worry about that XD Mary sues can be fun sometimes and specially useful when you are really bored, I even have to admit I made one or two… they just didn’t leave my head XD

I’m sure the major is the mary-sue of Hirano though… and probably the best damn created mary-sue ever XD
